Cyclo-Phone
Transforms a circular segment of the city into a sonic cyclone. This giant instrument will audibly alter in pitch and temperament in reaction to an arced path.
- Portable
Description
This work makes use of a unique mapping system that seeks to track a continuous walking gesture. This gesture instigates audible changes to the presented sound field. This is comparable to the operation of a musical instrument, with the walker as the performer’s hands and the city streets as the instrument body. Thus, a suitable concept and sound palette has been adopted which sympathises with, and adheres to, the surrounding environment.
Setup instructions
This Mediascape is portable and hence can be placed upon any outdoor location. However, it is intended to be played within a city centre locale where there are a good number of diverging streets to explore and where a circular path can be achieved.
A full list of instructions can be found within the mediascape itself by selecting the ‘instructions’ tab from the main menu.
